0. For those travelling by plane: Closest airports: Bratislava /BTS/, Vienna /VIE/ or Budapest /BUD/. 1. For those arriving to Banská Bystrica by train: 1 a. Get off (if it is possible) at the train station "Banská Bystrica mesto". Walk under the railway line and cross the 4 lane road at the pedestrian crossing. You just reached "Národná ulica" (street). Walk straight up the hill towards „Námestie SNP" (pedestrian zone) cca 200 meters. Behind the arch that connects "Národná street" and "Námestie SNP" turn slightly towards right and cross the „Námestie SNP“. There is „Lazovná street“ just between shop "101 Drogerie" and "Baťa". Walk by „Lazovná street almost to the end where you find Hostel YMCA on your left side. 1 b. If you get off at the main train station (either accidently or because train stops there only): copy the „Hron“ river basin downstream along the railway lane and within maximum 10 minutes you will reach train station "Banská Bystrica mesto". Then follow the instructions in 1 a. 1 c. If the weather is really brutal and you do not feel like walking: take a local bus (MHD) number 35 or 36 that has the stop just in front of the main train station. Oneway ticket costs 0,60 Euro. Get off in „Strieborné námestie (ask the locals). When you get off in Strieborné námestie follow the „Instructions for all 4 wheel drivers“ that you find below.
There are daily regular connections to Banská Bystrica from all important Slovak towns (http://cp.zoznam.sk/). You could also find very convenient international connections from Prague, Vienna and Budapest.
2. For those arrivign to Banská Bystrica by bus: When you get off at the main bus station and you consider not to take a local bus and pay 0,60 Euro (1 c) follow the instructions in 1 b. How you get from the main bus station to the main train station: by walking cca 100 meters along railway line as out of the city, or ask the locals. Then follow the instructions in 1 b.
3. For those arriving to Banská Bystrica by car:
"Instructions for all 4 wheel drivers": You are at „Strieborné námestie“ (in whatever conner). Find the „Tramtária" shop (sport shop) and turn towards "Katovná ulica" just at the corner of the shop. Then walk or drive cca 50 meters up the hill and you will reach junction of Katovná and Lazovná street. Drivers: turn left and park at the closest parking place. Both drivers or those walking: Hostel YMCA is located cca 30 m from the junction Katovná and Lazovná street towards right.
